  • How affiliate fees can help create a more manageable Web life
Former Gizmodo Editor Brian Lam got off the increasingly crazy Internet treadmill and fled to Hawaii to surf and take his time devising The Wirecutter, a product-recommendation site that specializes in a few deeply researched posts each month. The site survives largely on revenue from affiliates including Amazon, rather than depending on ad sales that come with the need to constantly refresh content and attract giant audiences. Companies large and small are turning to affiliate fees as Web-advertising revenues drop, according to this article. • PPC, search and the science of meeting needs
All of life includes some version of search which, simply put, occurs whenever we need something we don't already have, writes online marketer Howie Jacobson. • Yahoo debuts new search-ad format
Yahoo has debuted a new cost-per-lead search ad product, with prices based on advertiser size and vertical, the company said. The ads show up right under the advertiser's listing in organic search results, in a format that lets advertisers collect information from users including e-mail addresses and phone numbers. • Consumers prefer tablets for searching, browsing, not shopping
Shoppers prefer to use their tablets more than any other device for conducting research and searching for products but largely shun them for buying because of confusing user interfaces, according to an e-commerce survey of 43,000 consumers from OpinionLab, a consumer research firm. Android ranked last in customer satisfaction compared with rival platforms. Smartphones also received low marks for buying items, and shoppers expressed unhappiness with mobile devices' performance in locating stores. • Native ads fuel $4 billion mobile-advertising boom
Mobile advertising will increase 180% this year to top $4 billion, thanks in large part to an increase in native advertising on platforms such as Facebook and Twitter, eMarketer reports. Total U.S. mobile ad sales are expected to reach $7.19 billion in 2013, and almost $21 billion by 2016, topping earlier predictions. eMarketer (12/18) LinkedInFacebookTwitterEmail this Story
