Volvo is teaming up with Ericsson to develop and implement cloud-based automotive technology to bring dashboard-based digital services to drivers. - Danish firm plans devices controlled by eye movements
Denmark's The Eye Tribe hopes to bring to market within a year technology that would enable smartphone and tablet users to control their hardware with eye movements, the company said while disclosing a handful of partners. "We have already done experiments on tablets and have a prototype to demonstrate that it works. Now we need to make the technology even more robust, and more tolerant to different scenarios, including outdoor use," CEO Sune Alstrup Johansen said. - Fleet managers are turning to M2M to keep an eye on trucks
Fleet-management systems are increasingly using machine-to-machine technology to keep track of their trucks on the road, according to a published report that says governments have joined private enterprise in turning to connected devices to monitor fleet operations and oversee their maintenance. For example, Wireless Matrix has received Verizon Wireless certification on its Reporter 30, which automatically plugs into a vehicle's diagnostics to track data. ConnectedWorldMag.com

- Ericsson explores mobile uses of its Connected Me technology
Ericsson's Connected Me technology, which takes advantage of the human body's conductivity to transmit wireless information, could be implemented in a smartphone to unlock doors with the touch of a hand on the door handle, David Meyer writes. "We are in discussions with partners in the mobile space," Ericsson's Jan Hederen says. "That is really the platform where this technology takes off. Mobile broadband together with the smartphone: that is the infrastructure that is needed." GigaOm

- 2013 may be "the year of 4G," analysts say
Shipments of mobile devices that operate over Long-Term Evolution networks will triple by the end of next year, as some companies -- such as Amazon and Mozilla -- release their own 4G products, according to a forecast from Strategy Analytics. The research firm predicts that LTE shipments will reach 275 million in 2013, compared with about 91 million in 2012. TechCrunch
