Publix offers fee-based program for dietitian services
Publix Super Markets has started a pilot project called Publix Dietitian Services that offers consultations with a registered dietitian about nutrition, meal planning and weight loss for fees of $15 to $150. Jennifer Patzkowsky, a dietitian with a school district in Florida, called it a "great opportunity for dietitians to get involved with the public and help out." Sarasota Herald-Tribune (Fla.)

Registered dietitian Tanya Zuckerbrot offers a $10,000 package with consultations based on using her F-Factor diet, and she lets clients call her cellphone if they run into a nutrition dilemma and need some advice. Zuckerbrot says her own battle to lose weight makes her sympathetic to the struggles dieters face, and client Donny Deutsch says she "really integrates eating better with knowing that people have to live they way they do." Study links coffee, green tea consumption to lower stroke risk
Drinking at least one cup of coffee or at least two cups of green tea per day was associated with a 32% lower risk of intracerebral hemorrhage compared with people who rarely drank either beverage, according to a study published in Stroke: Journal of the American Heart Association. Researchers looked at the drinking habits of more than 83,000 adults in Japan and found that those who drank at least one cup of coffee or two to three cups of green tea daily were 20% and 14% less likely, respectively, to suffer a stroke. Home-based exercise program boosts health in seniors

Calif. district cites benefits of in-class breakfast
In California, 63,000 more students participated in the School Breakfast Program in 2012 than in the year before, according to recently released data. In the Adelanto School District, eight schools serve breakfast in the classroom, and officials are considering options for serving meals to students after school as well. Officials say since the breakfast program was implemented, students have been better-behaved and the goal is for students to carry healthy eating habits with them into adulthood. Wash. state program delivers locally grown food to schools
The Arlington School District in Washington state recently was named the Western Washington Fresh Food in Schools Champion by the Washington Sustainable Food & Farming Network -- in part for its efforts to serve locally produced food in school cafeterias.
