- Digital marketing leads Adobe's new revenue streams
Adobe's radical shift from a seller of software products for digital artists to a licensing- and cloud-based strategy centered on digital marketing is gradually winning back investors spooked by the changes. Its foray into demand-driven digital marketing, via acquisitions of Omniture, Day Software, Demdex, Efficient Frontier and Auditude, has Adobe competing against Microsoft, Apple, IBM and Google. But Adobe's digital marketing has led the company's revenue surge with 20% annual growth -- amounting to $768 million in the first nine months of 2012, Kevin Kelleher writes. CNNMoney

- AOL campaign is delayed over apparent creative disagreement
The new campaign for AOL that was supposed to launch this week has been delayed until next year. "Where we are today with the campaign is not great and we want to move it from good to great," said AOL representative Caroline Campbell. Although McCann was brought on to develop the ad for the $10 million branding campaign, it appears to have been delayed because of a disagreement between CEO Tim Armstrong and Chief Marketing Officer Jolie Hunt, who recently left the company, over Armstrong's insistence on using stylized dancers, writes Jason Del Rey. - Facebook rates marketing partners in new developer center
Facebook has launched a Preferred Marketing Developer Center as an online resource for brands that want to dive into social media marketing without risking practices Facebook discourages. Facebook has approved more than 260 vendors, arranged in a hierarchy with some vendors preferred (such as Adobe, Glow and SocialCode), and others listed as yet-unworthy of sporting a PMD approval badge (Acquisio, Havas Digital, and ReachLocal). - How to unleash the power of "econovation"
Innovation often falls short because it's developed without a clear sense of potential "economic and societal impact," writes Steve Faktor. One potential solution lies in the "econovation" metric, which grades innovations according to their profit potential, the consumer needs they serve and their ability to spur job creation and other societal goods. - The importance of business-model innovation
Modern companies need to use organizational structures that allow them to execute their strategies while searching for new business models, Steve Blank writes. "Companies will have to maintain a portfolio of new business model initiatives -- not unlike a venture capital firm -- and will have to accept that maybe only one out of 10 initiatives might succeed," he writes.
