  • Bondholders will weigh in on an American Airlines-US Airways merger
Bondholders at American Airlines, who hold more than $2 billion in debt, will consider whether the carrier should merge with US Airways, sources say. • Blog: FAA should accelerate deployment of performance-based navigation procedures
In a National Journal blog post, Airlines for America President and CEO Nicholas Calio writes that FAA Administrator Michael Huerta's "challenge will be to focus on delivering the benefits of NextGen to passengers, businesses, and operators now" and "to accelerate the deployment of the most cost-beneficial elements of NextGen, including performance-based navigation (PBN) procedures." PBN will help reduce congestion by allowing airlines to perform more fuel-efficient approaches and departures. "This initiative is so important that we made it one of our top five priorities under a National Airline Policy," Calio writes.
