- ACC: Dow Chemical cracker reaffirms chemical industry's importance
The American Chemistry Council on Thursday praised Dow Chemical's plan to build an ethane cracker in Texas. "Dow's announcement is further evidence that the chemistry industry is a growth engine helping to revitalize America's manufacturing sector," said ACC President and CEO Cal Dooley. - Illinois is urged to use industry's best practices for fracking
Illinois officials should take advantage of the oil and natural gas industry's efforts to ensure that hydraulic fracturing doesn't harm the environment or public health, writes Dan Eichholz, associate director of the Illinois Petroleum Council. The industry has best practices for fracking and has helped form an online registry for the chemicals used in the drilling technique. - Stop discovering stuff and start inventing things
To demystify creativity, we need to learn the difference between discovery and invention, says Tina Seelig. Most people see innovation as a process of scientific discovery, but that misses the creative spark that leads to genuinely new inventions, Seelig argues. "That's one of the reasons creativity seems so mysterious -- we don't, from the time they're young, teach people the components of what you need to invent, as opposed to discover," she says.
