The hotel TV is shifting from the traditional video-on-demand model to serving as an access point for travelers with subscriptions to third-party video content providers, this feature says. However, this new business model is not as profitable as video on demand. "Video on demand was a revenue generator in the past, but how does the hotel benefit off of guests using a service such as Netflix? How do you commercialize an app, since it needs a guest's account details to work? There is a solution, but it isn't there yet," said Chris Barton, a manager at LG Electronics.
