- Bank, homeowners clash over control of HOA
Homeowners in the Prairie Ridge Townhomes Development in Geneva, Ill., and the Old Second National Bank, which owns 55 lots in the subdivision, headed to court over who controls the HOA and its bank account. The bank took over the board when the neighborhood foreclosed on its developer in February, but the homeowners believe it was taken over illegally and are unhappy with how it's been managed. - Concerns force Salvation Army away from Christmas event in Texas
A neighborhood's Christmas-lights display that attracts about 40,000 visitors each year is keeping the Salvation Army from setting up its red-kettle donation centers near the entrance to the event by threatening to not put up displays. Residents from the Interlochen neighborhood in Arlington, Texas, said the charity's presence contributed to litter and traffic issues last year. Fort Worth Star-Telegram (Texas)

- Brevity is the soul of effective e-mail
If no one ever seems to read or respond to your e-mails, it might be because you are making your messages too long, writes Craig Jarrow. You might end up rambling in your e-mails if you lack necessary knowledge or fail to edit your messages, he writes. "If your emails are brief and to the point, your recipients will be more likely to get the point." Lifehacker

- How to deal with negative publicity
If your company has been publicly criticized, it's important to keep your cool when crafting a response, writes Dorothy Crenshaw of Crenshaw Communications. "It's easy to be emotional and use inflammatory or defensive language when attacked, especially if things get personal," she notes. You should try to include facts or statistics in your response, and you should also apologize if necessary. PRDaily.com

| About NBC-CAM |
The National Board of Certification for Community Association Managers (NBC-CAM) is a 17-year-old independent board that sets the standards for
community association managers worldwide. The board administers the Certified Manager of Community Associations® (CMCA) examination, a rigorous,
three-hour test that measures managers’ knowledge of community management best practices. Passing the CMCA examination and maintaining the
standards of the CMCA certification is proof that a manager is a knowledgeable, ethical and professional. CMCA-certified managers have the skills
to safeguard the assets of homeowners’ associations, giving homeowners peace of mind and protecting home values.
The CMCA credential is accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA) which means it complies with NCCA’s stringent
international standards for a professional certification program. NCCA accreditation provides independent validation that the CMCA program meets
or exceeds twenty-one standards concerning various aspects of the certification program including its purpose, structure, governance, psychometric
foundation, policies and procedures. Accreditation validates the integrity of the CMCA program and is a mark of quality.
