With new routes coming, Hawaiian will add 240 flight attendants
Hawaiian Airlines will interview around 2,600 applicants for 240 new flight-attendant positions, a hiring wave accompanying its recently announced move into Asia and several other new markets. Deal struck between American Eagle and final union awaits approval
American Eagle has struck a tentative deal with the union representing its 91 dispatchers. If the dispatchers approve it, the airline will have new labor contracts secured with all of its unions, and will likely request a postponement of a bankruptcy court hearing next week that would consider ending the extant contract with dispatchers. Delta says Sandy dampened November gains
Delta Air Lines saw an increase in revenue per seat mile in November despite what the carrier estimates is a $25 million monthly profit loss caused by superstorm Sandy. National airline policy will strengthen economy, A4A's Calio says
Airlines for America and its members have proposed a new national airline policy that would allow U.S. airlines to operate more effectively and thus bolster the economy, A4A President and CEO Nicholas Calio writes in this blog post. "The policy seeks to reduce taxes, reform the industry's regulatory burden, modernize our nation's air traffic control system, stabilize runaway energy prices and enable the industry to compete globally," Calio writes. FAA, industry groups emphasize pilot response to stalls for training
The Federal Aviation Administration and other industry groups informing pilot training are calling for changes in stall training, a key aspect of pilot training critical for maintaining airplane safety. The FAA and the International Federation of Airline Pilots' Associations have updated their training information to reflect their latest stall-training recommendations. Airbus begins testing on its first A350 structure
Airbus has completed the structuring of its first A350 XWB, which has been moved from its assembly site in France for testing. Airbus expects the jet to make its first flight midway through 2013 and to enter service by late 2014. Bloomberg Businessweek (12/4)

Boeing expects capital markets, banks to finance more jets
Capital markets will provide 14% of jet financing next year, compared with 10% this year, according to Boeing's annual forecast. The company expects financing by commercial banks to increase to 28%, from 21%. Reuters (12/4)

BA commits to $500M biofuel purchases over 10 years
British Airways has confirmed a purchase agreement the airline made with biofuels manufacturer Solena Fuels Corp. to purchase some $500 million in waste-to-jet fuel over 10 years. Hearing to consider protecting aviation officials from criminal charges
Experts are scheduled to hold a public hearing today in Washington in advance of a January report from the International Civil Aviation Organization encouraging nations to move away from allowing criminal charges against aviation officials, including pilots, air traffic controllers and mechanics involved in flight accidents. EU to "take every possible action" to enforce new airspace rules
With the official deadline now passed for compliance with the Single European Sky regulations, the European Commission is stating its intent to "take every possible action" to enforce the new policy. "There is no other option but to strongly enforce EU law," said Transport Commissioner Siim Kallas. Legally, the EC can initiate court proceedings against noncompliant member states to levy fines.
