  • Dietitian: It's time to tout milk's essential nutrients
Many consumers mistakenly believe that whole milk is the only type of milk that has Vitamin D, says registered dietitian Karen Giles-Smith. Dairy producers should not shy from promoting milk's nine essential nutrients in every kind of milk, including skim. Milk also offers nutrition at a bargain rate in terms of both calories and cents compared with many other foods, she adds. DairyFoods.com (10/18) LinkedInFacebookTwitterEmail this Story
  • Lactose-free products may be antidote to slow European sales
Growing demand for lactose-free dairy products can be a good way for dairy processors to gain a leg up on the competition in the struggling Western European market, according to analysts from Euromonitor International. • Dairy sourcing presents challenges for global beverage brands
Beverage giants such as Coca-Cola and PepsiCo are likely to face big challenges in sourcing for milk powder and dairy drinks due to commodity pricing volatility and increasingly complex supply chains for emerging markets, says Ross Colbert, global strategist for the beverage sector at Rabobank. • Exports to drive growth in Australian dairy industry, report says
Australian dairy exports are forecast to increase 14% in 2013 to 673,000 metric tons, according to a report from the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Rising international demand for dairy products as well as rising domestic demand are set to drive solid growth in the Australian industry in the coming years. "The end of a near decade-long drought in 2010, followed by two consecutive years of above-average rainfall in key dairy producing areas, has enabled the Australian dairy industry to successfully rebound," the report said.
