  • ConforMIS' facility expansion would add about 100 jobs in Mass.
    ConforMIS, maker of the iTotal G2 knee implant, has transferred its headquarters from Burlington to Bedford, Mass. The company said it will keep the Burlington site as a production facility, bringing its total available operational space to more than 120,000 square feet.   • New prosthetic foot uses actuator to mimic human ankle
    Researchers at Vrije Universiteit Brussel in Belgium have created the Ankle Mimicking Prosthetic Foot, which uses an actuator to store energy in its spring, allowing it to mimic the movement of a human ankle. There are other prostheses that also use an actuated ankle, but the AMP-Foot 2.0 uses a motor that runs off of only 30 to 60W and weighs about the same as a healthy foot, while allowing amputees who weigh up to 165 pounds to replicate 100% push-off while walking on flat ground.     Agfa HealthCare has developed a radiography system targeted at hospitals, physician practices and imaging facilities that are planning digital X-ray technology upgrades or replacements.     The FDA has released guidance outlining its performance objectives and time frames for the 510(k) clearance process for medical devices in fiscal years 2013 to 2017. The goals, meant to address concerns that the 510(k) process has lagged or become too complex, include shrinking the average time for clearance decisions from 150 days in FY 2012 to 124 days in FY 2017.
