- Country Club of Virginia always one step ahead of competitors
The Country Club of Virginia in Richmond has managed to out-do its competitors from the day the club was founded more than 100 years ago by continually changing and adapting to stay relevant. The club exemplified this philosophy by being one of the first to allow female members, expanding its property to include gorgeous riverfront on the James River, and revamping its facilities to provide more activities that would appeal to families. - Wealthy Americans continue to drive economic growth
While the majority of Americans are feeling the pinch of delayed tax refunds, escalating gas prices, and stagnant incomes and are dialing back spending accordingly, wealthy Americans are spending more than enough to keep the economy growing.
"People in the top half of the income distribution are doing just fine. They're spending enough to keep the economy moving," says Mark Zandi, chief economist at Moody's Analytics. "But the lower half is having a difficult time keeping their heads above water." The Wall Street Journal

- Study: Consumers want low-calorie meal options at chain restaurants
U.S. restaurant chains that augmented their low-calorie fare options are out-performing those that continue to promote super-sized meals with calorie counts that pack a punch. According to a report by the Hudson Institute, servings of lower-calorie meals grew 2.5% from 2006 to 2011 while higher-calorie servings dropped 4.2%, showing that consumers are more apt to spend money on healthier options. - Bill seeks to repeal health care requirements for small businesses
Two Republican senators have introduced legislation to repeal a mandate in the new health care reform law that would require employers of 50 or more workers to provide minimum health care benefits or pay a fee, an effort endorsed by the National Club Association.
"The health care mandate will cause many American businesses to pay a $2,000 penalty per employee rather than provide health care. It will cause businesses that employ many of our lowest-income workers to reduce their number of employees. It will cause many other businesses to reduce the number of hours their employees work,” says Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee ranking member Lamar Alexander. “On the whole, the mandate means higher costs, fewer jobs, and lower incomes."
