  • Students visit orchard to learn about local produce
Twenty sixth-graders from a middle school in Kansas City, Mo., visited a local orchard as part of a program to teach students where and how food is produced. Besides the field trip, the school and orchard work together as part of the Fresh from the Farm program that provides locally grown fruits and vegetables for school lunches. "Kids today are very far removed from agriculture. Their food comes from the store," Kristy Barnhart, business manager for Alldredge Orchards, said. The Kansas City Star (Mo.)
