The Alliance announces 2015 MVP Award winners

Don McCrory receives J.A. Piper Award

Former NRCA President Don McCrory, president of Kiker Corp., Mobile, Ala., was named the 68th recipient of NRCA’s J.A. Piper Award during NRCA's 128th Annual Convention Feb. 22-26 in New Orleans. Thousands of businesses could use drones under FAA proposed rules

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) recently announced proposed rules regarding the commercial use of small drones, according to The Washington Post. The rules could give clearance to thousands of businesses to fly drones starting in 2017. The proposed regulations have significant limitations that will affect roofing contractors and others who use drones to obtain aerial images of projects. See more information.

More NRCA publications will be added to the app, and all automatically will be updated on the app as revisions are made, ensuring you always have the most current information. NRCA's new affinity program allows NRCA members to collect customer reviews

These customer reviews then can be posted on Google, Yelp, Houzz, Home Advisor, Better Business Bureau, Angie’s List and many other online review sites. The platform centers on an app that works on all iOS and Android phones and tablets. The service requires no long-term contract; your business can be collecting customer reviews in two days or less. NRCA will hold children's art contest for National Roofing Week

To celebrate National Roofing Week in July, NRCA is holding a Children's Art Contest to promote the importance of having a roof and the value of a professional roofing contractor. The contest is open to children in grades 1-8 who are relatives of NRCA contractor members or employees. Submissions will be divided into three groups based on grade, and the winner from each group will have his or her artwork featured on all 2015 National Roofing Week material and additional promotional material to be displayed at industry events throughout the year. Former NRCA president passes away

Former NRCA President Mike Promen, former owner of Clark Roofing Co., Broadview, Ill., passed away Feb. 2 after a long struggle with Alzheimer's disease. He was 72. Promen served as NRCA president from 2001-02 and chaired several committees and task forces during his NRCA tenure. In 2010, he was awarded the J.A. Piper Award, the roofing industry's highest honor. NRCA University offers OSHA 10-hour program

NRCA University will hold its Roofing Safety: OSHA 10-hour Program March 5-6 in Orange, Calif. This is the only Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) 10-hour construction program specifically designed to help participants identify and avoid hazards they likely will encounter daily on the job. As winter weather hits the U.S., it is helpful to review Chicago-based CNA's tips to protect against the risks of excessive snow buildup. Snow accumulation quickly can reach critical limits, resulting in a partial or complete structural collapse. Snow loads also can cause deflection in support members sufficient enough to damage electrical conduits, natural or propane gas lines, and water or fluid piping, among other things. NRLRC releases NRLRC Contract Provisions Volume V

The National Roofing Legal Resource Center has released NRLRC Contract Provisions Volume V, a volume of formal legal contract provisions that offers consumers an easy format that can be inserted directly into contracts. The contract provisions are written by lawyers, compiled by NRLRC and come with plain-language, easy-to-understand explanations. As of June 1, 2014, all NRCA contractor members automatically became members of NRLRC as part of their NRCA dues; NRCA contractor members have free access to a downloadable PDF in the Legal Library section of the NRLRC website. The NRCA member price for the volume is $150, and the nonmember price is $450. See more information.
