Phone scammers pretending to be the IRS

Phone scams have become a persistent and pervasive problem for many taxpayers. Scammers are able to alter caller ID numbers to make it look like the IRS is calling. The Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration knows of nearly 3,000 phone-scam victims who have collectively paid over $14 million since Oct. 13. Clients should be reminded that the IRS will never call to demand immediate payment, call about taxes owed without first having mailed a bill, or require use of a specific tax payment method, such as a prepaid debit card. The AICPA Not-for-Profit Entities Expert Panel developed a nonauthoritative Q&A about a not-for-profit entity that has a for-profit subsidiary consolidated under GAAP. The reporting entity is the consolidated not-for-profit entity and is not permitted to adopt the accounting alternative in ASU No. 2014-02, Intangibles -- Goodwill and Other: Accounting for Goodwill. Therefore, the for-profit subsidiary that is part of that consolidated reporting entity is not permitted to use the amortization accounting alternative in the consolidated financial statements.

Recent study shows lower costs of implementing XBRL

A recent AICPA/XBRL U.S. study found that most small companies paid less than $10,000 annually to outsource the creation and filing of their eXtensible Business Reporting Language financial statement submissions to the Securities and Exchange Commission.
