Blood banks in Manchester, UK, overwhelmed by donations

AABB SmartBrief | May 25, 2017

Blood banks in Manchester, UK, were overwhelmed by the large number of people wanting to donate blood after a bombing at an Ariana Grande concert. "We plan ahead to build in reserves to deal with major incidents. We hope that people who want to help will now become regular donors, because that is how they can best help us save lives when there is a tragedy," writes Jane Green, chief nurse and assistant director of blood donation operations at the UK's NHS Blood and Transplant. Green describes the process of how blood is collected and takes weeks to prepare for use. The Guardian (London) (05/24) Fox News (05/23)
