Study evaluates novel PET agent in identifying metastatic prostate cancer

SNMMI SmartBrief | Dec 05, 2016

Researchers at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center evaluated imaging from 18 patients with metastatic prostate cancer and found the new PET agent Zr-89-desferrioxamine-IAB2M detected bone lesions in nine patients and soft tissue disease in 14 patients, compared with nine and six patients with positive bone scans using Tc-99m-methylene diphosphonate and FDG, respectively, and 14 and 10 patients with positive soft tissue disease determined by CT and FDG-PET scans, respectively. The findings in the Journal of Nuclear Medicine suggest that further study and development of the novel compound may prompt earlier and more accurate metastatic prostate cancer diagnoses and allow for targeted radiotherapy, researchers said.
