Commission criticizes Denti-Cal

NADP SmartBrief | Apr 07, 2016

Denti-Cal, California's dental program for low-income residents, is dysfunctional and has failed to meet the state's needs, according to a report from the Little Hoover Commission, a nonpartisan oversight panel. The program suffers from inadequate funding, low rates of reimbursement, an outdated billing system, a complicated application process and onerous preauthorization requirements, the commission said. One-third of California residents, including more than half the state's children, are eligible for care through Denti-Cal. National Public Radio (04/06)
