Large study links periodontal, heart diseases

NADP SmartBrief | Aug 25, 2016

People with periodontal disease were twice as likely as those with healthy gums to experience severe chest pain, heart attack or stroke, according to a Dutch study involving 60,174 dental patients ages 35 and older. Gum disease appears to develop first and might cause heart trouble because of persistent infection and bacteria in the bloodstream, the researchers said. Reuters (08/23)
