Algo trading to face more CFTC oversight

The Commodity Futures Trading Commission is planning greater oversight of algorithmic traders. "Algorithmic trading has dramatically increased in our markets, and that changes the way we regulate, changes the way we do surveillance," Chairman Timothy Massad said. Regulators are responding to criticism that faulty algorithms could destabilize financial markets, although backers say algorithms add liquidity and cut the cost of transactions.
