Cancer trial on humans using gene-editing technology approved by federal panel

Scientists from the University of Pennsylvania have received approval from the federal Recombinant DNA Advisory Committee to move forward with the very first clinical trials on cancer patients using the CRISPR-Cas9 gene-editing technology. The trials will be funded by the Parker Institute for Cancer Immunotherapy, but will still need approvals from the FDA and the hospitals where the trials will be conducted in order to advance.
