Choosing Wisely: Don't treat dementia symptoms with antipsychotics

The American Geriatrics Society has issued updated Choosing Wisely guidelines that include not using antipsychotic medications to treat patients with certain dementia symptoms. The AGS also said dementia patients should not be prescribed cholinesterase inhibitors without regular cognitive assessments and monitoring of gastrointestinal effects.
