Global fiber broadband connections numbered more than 1 billion in 2023, constituting 69% of all fixed-line services, Omdia reports, adding the total will surpass 1.4 billion in four years. The analyst firm predicts 5G fixed wireless access will overtake LTE by 2028.

Consolidated Communications has extended its symmetrical, multi-gigabit Fidium Fiber service to an additional 3,000 homes and businesses in four northern Maine communities. The telecom says it has increased its reach in the state to 250,000 locations, a 45% increase in the last year.

Members of a House subcommittee are considering a slew of telehealth-related bills ahead of the Dec. 31 deadline to extend pandemic-era telehealth flexibilities. Lawmakers are considering measures that include permanently waiving originating site requirements and expanding the types of health care professionals who can offer virtual care, and they are mulling a short-term extension of the flexibilities.
