The Lumen networking company says 9-1-1 outages in Nebraska, South Dakota, and Nevada on Wednesday were caused by a third party's installation of a light pole, and service was restored by this morning. A separate outage in Texas was unrelated to Lumen's outage, and 9-1-1 service was restored in about three hours.
Emergency personnel in Indianapolis are searching for two missing kayakers last seen Tuesday on the White River. A 9-1-1 caller reported seeing two kayaks overturn; responders found one kayak and are using drones, personnel in boats and underwater sonar to find the men.
State University of New York Niagara and Niagara County have partnered on a new Niagara County Law Enforcement Academy to train public safety professionals. The $8 million Academy will have classrooms, open areas for reality-based tactical scenarios and a simulated jail pod.

Proposed new OSHA regulations are raising concerns among rural volunteer firefighters who say the new equipment and protective equipment requirements are not affordable. The regulations would require departments to replace firefighting gear every 10 years and vehicles every 25 years, which firefighters say could shut down smaller rural departments.
Training will begin next month in Buncombe County, N.C., on an AI system that will triage emergency and nonemergency calls. The new system will allow first responders to handle emergency calls while nonemergency calls get a more appropriate response.
