The National Association of Broadcasters' "You Belong Here" campaign was born in response to broadcasters' appeals for assistance in attracting new recruits to the industry amid misconceptions about the future of linear television and radio, says NAB Leadership Foundation President Michelle Duke. Broadcasters tend to be passionate about what they do, and students and others interested in industry careers shouldn't be afraid to approach them about mentorship and opportunities, Duke says.

"Password sharing continues to be prevalent throughout the streaming video industry," said Leichtman Research Group President Bruce Leichtman, as LRG's latest survey found it occurring among 10% of services. The rate rises to 17% for viewers between 18 and 34.

The ongoing standoff between Universal Music Group and TikTok that resulted in UMG pulling its music from the platform has allowed independent artists to climb Billboard's TikTok Top 50 chart, but experts warn that taking advantage of the situation could damage the ecosystem permanently. "This should also serve as a reminder to the independent community: You can't rely on someone else's platform to reach your audience. This month it's UMG, next month it could be your distributor," says Jody Whelan of Oh Boy Records.

Updated viewer retention charts in YouTube Studio offer analysis of specific audience behaviors and how individuals are engaging with content that can be filtered by subscribers and non-subscribers, new and returning viewers and organic and paid traffic. YouTube is testing the tool among select creators, and hasn't disclosed specific timing for a full rollout.

Legislation targeting TikTok, whose parent company ByteDance is based in China, is before the US Senate, but Ben Werschkul points out that other tech-related proposals have died there, "including data privacy efforts and a move to prohibit tech giants from favoring their own products." Early signals indicate the Senate will move slowly, if at all, on the House-passed bill.
