New AAIA government affairs blog post: Marketplace fairness -- moving it forward
The AAIA government affairs team publishes a weekly blog post to provide thoughts on what is happening in Washington, D.C., and in the states that could affect the aftermarket. This week, Sheila Andrews, manager, government affairs, discusses recent developments in the debate over the Marketplace Fairness Act -- national legislation allowing states to collect sales taxes on Internet sales. Most industries, including auto care, stand to benefit greatly from this legislation, but congressional politics continues to be a major obstacle. View the complete post.

Car Care Council News
Show your car a little love
Your car doesn't want flowers, balloons or candy this Valentine's Day -- it just wants a little love in the form of an oil change, tune-up and basic service. A little extra care now can lead to happily ever after with your car for many years to come, says the Car Care Council. "If you want to add more years to the relationship between you and your car, give it some extra TLC this Valentine's Day," said Rich White, executive director, Car Care Council. "There's no debating the value of preventive maintenance to keep your car running efficiently. By showing your car a little love now, you'll avoid the heartbreak and unexpected expense of car trouble down the road." The Car Care Council is the source of information for the "Be Car Care Aware" consumer education campaign promoting the benefits of regular vehicle care, maintenance and repair to consumers. Don't forget to engage strong but quiet performers
Every company has productive but low-profile employees who should be sought out by leaders before they become disengaged, writes Mary Schaefer. "Be ready for any number of responses, but bottom line, please start a discussion. Make sure you don't let your secret workforce wander over into that 'not engaged' category," she writes. Why smart bosses expect the best, but not more
Too many leaders are perfectionists, and that drives them to doubt, criticize and micromanage their workers, writes Mary Jo Asmus. It's better to expect excellence, then trust and encourage people to deliver. "Leaders who bring out excellence in others are talent magnets. The word is out, and people want to have a chance to learn and develop while working with these leaders," Asmus writes. SmartBrief/SmartBlog on Leadership (2/5)
