Galileo improves location-based accuracy, tests confirm
Global navigation satellite system Galileo, under development by the European Union, has been tested and found to significantly improve accuracy of location-based services. Rx Networks and the European GNSS Agency found that Galileo provided a boost to location-based functions when used in conjunction with GPS or GLONASS technology. Directions Magazine (6/18)

Location data make other advertising relevant, experts say
Location-based data through smartphones is increasing the relevance of other outdoor forms of advertising, such as billboards, writes Matthew Wall. The ability to see what mobile users are searching at a specific bus stop, for example, helps marketers better target their messages to the right audiences. "Thanks to location data, we now understand the relevance and value of a particular advertising position compared with another," says James Davies of Posterscope. BBC (6/16)

Glympse receives financing for integration efforts
Location-sharing service Glympse has received $12 million to expand its integration into messaging applications, cars and wearable devices. Glympse's basic app lets users share their real-time location, along with their destination, to coordinate meet-ups and travel information with other app users. Nokia acquires Medio, bolstering Here division's mapping
Nokia-owned mapping service Here is acquiring predictive analytics provider Medio Systems, a move that will help Nokia offer more customized location-based features.
