Knife makers in Oregon push for TSA to renew policy
Lester De Asis, CEO of Oregon City's Benchmade Knife Co., and other knife manufacturers have been talking to Transportation Security Administration officials and lawmakers about resuming plans to allow some small knives on board planes. "We lost a lot of sales," said Jake Nichol, chief executive of Portland's Leatherman Tool Group, noting the decision to ban knives after Sept. 11, 2001. "Millions of dollars were lost." Man, 19, stopped at Daytona airport in Fla. with loaded gun
Thomas Suddard, 19, was stopped at Florida's Daytona Beach International Airport Wednesday after authorities found a loaded gun in his carry-on bag. The Sheriff's Office confiscated the weapon and filed a complaint against the man, who got on a later flight. The Daytona Beach News-Journal (Fla.) (5/15)

Man found with fake grenade at Hancock Airport in N.Y.
A man from San Antonio, Texas, was stopped at Syracuse Hancock International Airport in New York on Tuesday after officials saw what appeared to be a grenade in his bag. It turned out to be a replica, which is not allowed on a plane, and the man was allowed to board his flight to Atlanta. WSYR-TV (Syracuse, N.Y.) (5/15)

Airline customer satisfaction improves
Airline passenger satisfaction has increased 14 points from last year's J.D. Power study, reaching 695 on a satisfaction scale of 1,000 points. One reason for the improvement is the technology airlines are using to improve the travel experience with faster check-in, in-flight Wi-Fi and seatback entertainment. Experts also credit improved comfort, including legroom, for the uptick in passenger satisfaction. Airlines report 79.8% on-time performance in March
The Bureau of Transportation Statistics reported no domestic tarmac delays for U.S. airlines of more than three hours in March. Airlines also reported an on-time arrival rate of 79.8% in March, compared to 79.6% in February. TravelPulse (5/15)

Senate committee to hold confirmation hearing for Foxx
The Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee will hold a confirmation hearing on the nomination of Anthony Foxx, President Barack Obama's choice for transportation secretary.
