A University at Albany survey of nursing schools in New York state found the number of registered nurse graduates has more than doubled since 2002, and more bachelor's degrees are being awarded. Nursing environment affects quality, outcomes, study says
Magnet hospitals and Kaiser Permanente centers had about a 20% lower patient mortality risk compared with other hospitals, and differences in nursing account for much of it, according to a study from the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing. "It turns out that these differences we see in nursing, in terms of work environment, staffing levels, investment in nursing around a highly educated workforce, those things translate into better outcomes," study author Matthew McHugh said. Mich. community colleges support offering 4-year nursing degrees
Michigan's 28 community colleges support the creation of four-year nursing degree programs at their schools and say such programs could help them align students' skills with industry needs.
