Many nursing graduates already have jobs
All but two of Western Kentucky University's newly graduated nurses have jobs awaiting them, partly because hospitals that have not recruited for years are hiring again, says WKU Nursing School Director Mary Bennett. The University of Virginia School of Nursing says 75% of students who graduated this spring have jobs or plan to pursue graduate degrees. WBKO-TV (Bowling Green, Ky.) ACA brings opportunities, challenges for nurses
WalletHub has ranked Washington state first for overall environment for nurses, based in part on its fifth-place ranking for opportunities and 13th-place ranking for work environment. Nationally, increased access to health care under the Affordable Care Act will boost the demand for nurses and create advances for the profession, observers say. "The increase in patient populations makes the case for efficiency of scales and using all providers to the fullest scope of practice," said G. Rumay Alexander of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Watchdog.org (5/15)

Malone: Don't pass up chance at nursing career
Roughly 750,000 nurses have entered the field since 2002, when Johnson & Johnson began its Campaign for Nursing's Future, but more are needed to answer a projected shortage, according to the American Association of Colleges of Nursing. National League for Nursing CEO Beverly Malone says a nursing career opens up many opportunities.
