GAO: VA has trouble implementing nurse hiring plans
A Government Accountability Office review of seven Department of Veterans Affairs medical centers found that all of them had trouble developing and implementing nurse staffing plans mandated by a 2010 directive. The VA has increased its nursing staff by 13% over five years, but turnover also has increased, and the agency says it needs to add 40,000 nurses through 2018 to meet expected demand for care.
