Nontenured professors make up about two-thirds of faculty at accredited colleges and universities in the United States, according to the Center for the Study of Academic Labor at Colorado State University. Community college program boosts minority students' science careers
A dozen community colleges around the country are participating in a program intended to broaden diversity in science fields. The Bridge to Biosciences program, started in 1993 by the City College of San Francisco, is sharing its curriculum through the federally funded Bio-Link program. Enrollment at U.S. law schools hits lowest rate in 27 years
Enrollment at law schools in the U.S. has dropped to its lowest level since 1987, according to the American Bar Association. Enrollment declined nearly 7% from last year, down 17.5% from historic high enrollment in 2010. A tight job market for lawyers has contributed to the decline, according to the ABA. U. of Mass. president to take top post at U. of Md.
Robert Caret is stepping down as president of the University of Massachusetts to become the chancellor of the University of Maryland. Caret had led the university since 2011 and was able to boost state funding to 50% and implement a tuition freeze for the past two years. Caret assumes his new post in July.
