Texas counties face shortage; hospital hiring trend shifts
Texas counties are seeing shortages of nurses due to increased demand for health care, an aging population, retirements in the field and a lack of nursing school faculty. Michael Lacourse at Sam Houston State University says demand is high at urban hospitals for nurses with bachelor's degrees, while nurses with associate degrees are more likely to be hired in rural areas. Nurses pick certificate programs to expand skills
Nurses are going back to school not only for advanced degrees but for certificate programs in specialty areas such as teaching, HIV/AIDS care and case management. Faculty shortages limit nursing school admissions
The U.S. is facing a nursing shortage, research has found, and Columbia University assistant professor of nursing Lusine Poghosyan says faculty shortages are limiting nursing school admissions. Recruiters tell job seekers how to avoid resume black holes
Submitting a resume online is commonplace, but John Adams of the networking organization August Group likens it to sending your query down a black hole, because "everything goes in and nothing comes out." Recruiting experts say job seekers should know important keywords for their profession that send their resumes to the top of the pile. They also are advised not to rely solely on online applications and to connect with networking sites such as Linkedin. Rochester Democrat and Chronicle (N.Y.) (tiered subscription model) (11/16)
